Book Swap for International Women's Day
International Women's Day was yesterday and many events were held across the world. I held a Book Swap in my home and the proceeds went to Oxfam.
My event started at 10am and ran until well after 3pm. The family had spent the week baking in preparation for the event. We all put in a selection of books and a friend brought some books round on the weekend in advance as she could not attend on the day. Another friend who also couldn't come on the day, generously donated money to the cause. 21 people came along, many bringing books to add and taking some away too. It was a great day to catch up with friends and it also reconnected some folk and discoveries were made realising what a small world we live in. One former deputy head was recognised by a parent, another friend in my book group discovered she sat next to the husband of another book group friend in her art class.
We raised a fabulous £105 which has been sent to Oxfam and today we took the remaining books to local Oxfam and Ty Hafan charity shops and as promised a bag to a friend's coffee shop as she sells second-hand books for kidney disease charities.
How did you raise money for International Womens' Day?
