Book Review - The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisburger

Synopsis - When Andrea first sets foot in the Manhattan offices of Runway she knows nothing about the world's most fashionable magazine or its feared editor, Miranda Priestley.  She learns very quickly that it's a sacking offence to wear less than a 3" heel to work.  8 stone is fat and that you can charge anything to Runway's account.  You must never leave your desk or let your boss's coffee get cold.  At 3 am, your boss rings and you jump even if your boyfriend has just dumped you because you spend too much time at work and when your best friend has been arrested.  Miranda is a monster but this is a big break for Andrea, will it be worth it in the end?
Review - I know this book is not hot off the press, after all, how many years ago was it my daughter and I went to see the film in the cinema shortly after its release.  However, I still thought I'd do a little review.  Of course, having seen the film already I see Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt in their respective roles, but the book is as usual better than the film.  A fun look at life in the world of fashion, working for a topclass, world wide magazine.  Imagine Anna Wintour or Tina Brown (oh hang on, she's supposed to be nice) and you get the idea.  Of course, one would have access to the 'closet' (the cupboard full of designer samples), top class make up, hair, beauticians and stylists.  The pressure would be at boiling point and food would be a dirty word.  It's the world most young girls dream about and the competition is very high.  It amazes me how many of the uninitiated let themselves be treated in such a manner but if that it your dream you would do anything to achieve it.  I liked our heroine Andy who has sound principles but occasionally needs a little reminder, after all who in reality is flawless?  3*
